Chrissy Teigen is sharing a health update about her and John Legend‘s son, Miles.

On Wednesday, the Cravings author took to Instagram to reveal that their 6-year-old son has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

“love u guys!!!!,” Teigen wrote next to the post.

Teigen explained that she decided to share the news of Miles’ diagnosis, after fans noticed his monitor on his arm, in a photo that she shared earlier this week while at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago,” she wrote alongside a picture of her, Miles and Luna holding up signs with Simone Biles’ name on it from the games. “Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and team USA. Miles had his arm up, soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform.”

She continued, “You noticed his type -1 diabetes monitor and extended so much love and encouragement in every way possible. I was and am, so blown away by the kindness of this community already.  I know. Things could be so much worse!! So many parents around the world are going through unfathomable things that I could never imagine. I tell myself this every time we get a red alert blasted to our phones. And we are so blessed to have so much help and wonderful, kind, huge-hearted specialist.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Type 1 diabetes, once known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a chronic condition. In this condition, the pancreas makes little or no insulin. Insulin is a hormone the body uses to allow sugar (glucose) to enter cells to produce energy. Different factors, such as genetics and some viruses, may cause type 1 diabetes. Although type 1 diabetes usually appears during childhood or adolescence, it can develop in adults. Even after a lot of research, type 1 diabetes has no cure.”

Teigen went on to explain that Miles received his diagnosis, after falling ill with shigella at camp. However, although he caught the same illness the other kids had, doctors noticed that his blood work was different.

“A lot of his friends were also sick with it, as they all went to the same camp and well, it happens,” she wrote in part. “But the doctors knew something else was off about his blood tests. I’ve learned since then that this is how so many young children end up being diagnosed with type-1 going to the hospital for something different. After more testing, we learned he is in the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime of T1. Last night we gave him his first shot of insulin and here we go! A different, new world for us and we are certainly learning so much on the fly.”

Teigen went on to share that the post was a thank you for all of the support.

“This post is to thank you so much for your kindness,” she wrote. “It helps Miles so much to know so many other people are going through the same thing and he is not alone.”

The Sports Illustrated model ended her post with a photo of the book Year One With Type-1 and shared how she and Legend read it to their son, and she became overcome with emotion.

“John and I read it to Miles last night and I burst into tears at this page and had to leave the room so he couldn’t see me sobbing,” she wrote. “He loves the book so much already. Anyhow, you are not alone either! And we promise to be there for you guys like you have been there for us already!.”

Teigen’s comments were met with support from her famous friends and followers.

Nick Jonas — who has been living with Type 1 diabetes since he was a young teenager — liked the post. Off of social media, Teigen shared that she and her family ran into Jonas during the Olympics — and he was very kind to Miles.

“My two brothers have T1, love that book. ❤️ @nickjonas does too, your son should go meet bad ass people, and see he’s not alone and can still accomplish anything. It’s scary but it becomes second nature and you guys will rock it,” the user wrote.

“Nick was so kind to him!!,” she said to the person who commented. “We were so lucky to run into him ❤️.”

Teigen and Legend are also parents of 8-year-old daughter Luna,  1-year-old son Wren and 1-year-old Esti. The couple and their two oldest children appeared in Paris last week at the opening ceremony for the Olympic games.

“opening ceremonies! sure it was a little (a lot) rainy but wowowowowow absolutely epic experience (and got to see a few of my favorite people!),” she captioned a post with a few photos.

Teigen also shared the picture of her, Miles and Luna supporting the gymnastics team on Sunday, that she included in her post about Miles’ diagnosis.
