Armani “was and will always remain one of the greatest representatives of Italian and Milanese fashion worldwide,” said Mayor Giuseppe Sala, CBC reported.
People loved and respected Armani. In response to the news of his death, Italian President Sergio Mattarella also called the designer a “maestro of style and a symbol of Italian creativity,” according to CBC.
Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, also spoke passionately about Armani in a statement. “Giorgio Armani leaves us at the age of 91. With his elegance, sobriety, and creativity, he was able to bring lustre to Italian fashion and inspire the entire world. An icon, a tireless worker, a symbol of the best of Italy. Thank you for everything,” she wrote on her social media.
Armani passed away in Milan, Italy, on Thursday. The Armani Group posted the news on Instagram. He was ninety-one. Fans and loved ones have since posted heartfelt tributes on social media in an outpouring of remembrance.
Armani’s regret
In his last interview, which was published on Aug 29 in Financial Times, Armani looked back on his career that spanned decades, including its highlights and challenges as well as its regrets. “My only regret in life was spending too many hours working and not enough time with friends and family,” he said.
Armani’s succession plans
He didn’t have children of his own, but the business, of which he was the only stakeholder, put safeguards in place to make sure it was in capable hands. His sister Rosanna, his nephew Andrea Camerana, and his nieces Silvana and Roberta are all heirs; they are already senior members of the Armani group.
“My plans for succession consist of a gradual transition of the responsibilities that I have always handled to those closest to me such as Leo Dell’Orco, the members of my family and the entire working team. I would like the succession to be organic and not a moment of rupture,” he said speaking to FT.
