Sophie Grégoire, ex-wife of former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, has spoken candidly about her life recently.
The topic of Trudeau’s relationship with singer Katy Perry came up during Grégoire’s recent interview on the podcast, “Arlene is Alone,” where presenter Arlene Dickinson expressed admiration for the 50-year-old’s ability to be “cool” about it.
“You know, we’re human beings and stuff affects us. Normal,” Grégoire said. “How you react to stuff is your decision. So, I choose to try to listen to the music instead of the noise,” she added.
In August 2023, Grégoire and Trudeau announced they were separating after 18 years of marriage. The former couple has three children together–Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 8. They were married in 2005.
In June 2025, Perry split from actor Orlando Bloom, after a seven-year relationship, which included six years of engagement. The two are co-parenting their daughter, Daisy Dove, in an amicable manner, according to their representatives. Daisy was born in August 2020 after the former couple started dating in 2016.
When Trudeau and Perry were spotted holding hands at the Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris around the singer’s birthday in October, it seemed that their affair had become public. In September, a bystander captured Trudeau and Perry in what appeared to be an embrace.
Grégoire continued she is “very aware that a lot of public stuff out there can be triggers.”
“What I do with it is my decision. The woman I want to become through this is my decision,” she said.
“I’ll let myself be disappointed by someone, I’ll let myself be angry, be sad. And I can attest to the significance of experiencing those feelings as a mental health advocate.” She’s not opposed to experiencing all emotions.
Earlier in the podcast Grégoire corrected Dickinson when she referred to her as a “single mom.”
Grégoire remarked, “I’m definitely not a single mom. I have a partnership with a father who has such deep love and availability to his children.”
